Florida has been heavily impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The state continues to rank third in the nation in the cumulative number of AIDS cases and second in the nation in the cumulative number of HIV cases.

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County’s HIV/AIDS Program has developed a comprehensive program for preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and for providing care and treatment to those already infected. This comprehensive approach includes HIV surveillance, education, prevention, counseling, testing, care, and treatment.


Ending The HIV Epidemic

“Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America (EHE)” is a bold plan that aims to end the HIV epidemic in the United States by 2030. The new initiative seeks to reduce the number of new HIV infections by 75 percent within five years, and then by at least 90 percent within 10 years. Due to the high incidence of HIV, Miami-Dade County was chosen as one of the 57 jurisdictions to implement this initiative.

This significant task force is comprised of a multitude of stakeholders in the community which includes, but is not limited to:
