The Environment Public Health section at the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County is responsible for all regulatory activities pertaining to the permitting, inspection, monitoring, and enforcement of all public drinking water facilities serving Miami-Dade County.

This includes the review and processing of engineering project documents for the construction of proposed water supply, treatment, and distribution facilities, performing periodic field inspections of all water treatment plants, and reviewing all plant operation reports and laboratory analysis reports for compliance to recognized standards.

This section is also responsible for collecting and evaluating water samples, and investigating waterborne disease outbreaks, including conditions associated with bacterial/viral, chemical, and radiological contaminants.
