Drinking Water

Environment Public Health (EPH) at the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County is responsible for all regulatory activities pertaining to the permitting, inspection, monitoring, and enforcement of all public drinking water facilities serving Miami-Dade County. This includes the review and processing of engineering project documents for the construction of proposed water supply, treatment, and distribution facilities, performing periodic field inspections of all water treatment plants, and reviewing all plant operation reports and laboratory analysis reports for compliance to recognized standards. EPH is also responsible for collecting and evaluating water samples, and investigating waterborne disease outbreaks, including conditions associated with bacterial/viral, chemical, and radiological contaminants.

This includes public water systems regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and Federal Facilities, Florida Department of Environmental Protection Water RulesLimited Use public water systems not covered under the Safe Drinking Water Act and private residential well systems.
