Seals on Wheels Dental Program
The “Seals on Wheels Mobile Dental Program” is a school-based dental sealant program, sponsored by the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County. This program was launched to help reduce oral health disparities amongst children residing in Miami-Dade County. This mobile dental health program provides preventive dental care services to children enrolled in Miami-Dade public schools, Head Start, and Early Head Start Centers.
The services provided include comprehensive dental exams and screenings, oral hygiene instructions, dental prophy (teeth cleanings), fluoride varnish treatments, and dental sealants. The dental van is staffed by a Florida licensed dentist, dental hygienist and dental assistant and services are provided at the school sites or centers during school hours.
Thanks to generous funding from the Children’s Trust, the Seals on Wheels Dental Program” is now able to provide dental services to Trust funded childcare, afterschool and summer programs located in the West section of Miami-Dade and Women Infant and Children (WIC) centers throughout the county. Because of this partnership, 2,000 additional children, will receive oral health education and preventive dental services each year. Our goal is for all children to have access to a dental home and a lifetime of healthy smiles.
