Miami, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County WIC Program will host the 7th Annual Drive-Thru Holiday Homestead/Florida City Health and Resource Fair at the Homestead/Florida City WIC clinic located at 753 West Palm Drive, Florida City, FL 33034 on Saturday, December 5th, 2020 from 10:00am – 12:00pm.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children - better known as the WIC Program - serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating including breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care.

For the last 6 years, this event has provided the Homestead/Florida City community access to free health screenings for children and adults, community resources and education. Last year, there were over 2,000 registered attendees and over 50 community organizations collaborating in the event. As a result, over 25,000 pounds of food, 300 hot meals, 1,000 children books, 1,200 toys and over 200 health and dental screenings were provided at the event.

Due to COVID-19, this year the event will be a Drive-Thru so that social distancing and safety guidelines can be followed. All attendees must arrive in a vehicle to participate. Families will be able to get important health information from local vendors, free food, free children’s books and toys, and enjoy music in a fun and festive holiday atmosphere.

This event would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and community partners.  They include Portofino Pediatrics, Community Medical Group, Read to Learn Books for Free, Simply Healthcare, Sunshine Health, Liberty Dental Plan, Molina Healthcare, Wellcare, FarmShare, and United Healthcare.
