Miami, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County (DOH-Miami-Dade County) recognizesMarch asNational Nutrition Month®- a nutrition education and information campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. This year’s theme "Savor the Flavor of Eating Right," encourages everyone to take time to enjoy food traditions and appreciate the pleasures, great flavors and social experiences food can add to our lives.
"This national observance serves as a reminder of the importance of making informed food choices while keeping your tastes and preferences in mind and developing physical activity habits," said Lillian Rivera, RN, MSN, PhD, Health Officer/Administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County. "Savor the Flavor of Eating Right” by taking time to enjoy healthy, flavorful foods.”
It’s important to take the time to appreciate the flavors, textures and overall eating experience. How, when, why and where we eat are just as important as what we eat. “Food is an essential part of life but how we enjoy and experience it, is based on each individuals taste preferences, culture and tradition” says Eriko Grover, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Nutrition Program Director for the DOH-Miami-Dade County WIC Program.  “Finding creative, healthy and nutritious ways to add flavor to food is all part of a healthy eating pattern.”
When seeking advice on creating a healthy eating pattern, consult with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. They are the lead experts in food and nutrition and can provide sound, easy-to-follow personalized nutrition advice to meet your lifestyle, preferences and health-related needs.
The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County WIC Program, has over 60 Registered Dietitians Nutritionist and Nutrition Educators providing nutrition education and support to thousands of families across the county on a monthly basis.
