Miami, FL - The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County has opened a Healthy Hub at the Frederica Wilson and Juanita Mann Health Center in Liberty City to provide free health screenings to the public.

This is part of an overarching initiative put forth to support public health efforts designed to reduce chronic diseases, promote healthier lifestyles, reduce health disparities, and control health care spending. According to the CDC, each year, nearly 900,000 Americans die prematurely from the five leading causes of death which include heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory diseases, accidents (unintentional injuries) and cerebrovascular diseases. Many of these deaths could be prevented and this initiative aims to raise awareness and empower Miami-Dade County residents to take control of their health by learning about their health status and finding solutions to improve health.
Participants can visit one of our healthy hub locations without an appointment and have their basic health evaluated in about 30 minutes. During this process, there is an opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional about simple steps they can take to optimize their health. Best of all, these screenings are free.
Screenings conducted at the Health and Wellness Center include:
• Blood pressure readings, glucose and cholesterol monitoring
• Body mass index (BMI) and percentage of body fat
• A heart health assessment from the American Heart Association’s “My Life Check”
In speaking with the healthcare professional, the public can find:
• How healthy their current lifestyle is and steps they can take to improve their health
• A green prescription, Journey to Wellness,
• A referral for follow-up primary medical healthcare, if needed
• Information about free healthy living resources in our community
The Healthy Hub is located at 2520 NW 75 Street, Miami, FL 33147 and open Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Health and Wellness Center was made possible with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through its Partnerships to Improve Community Health (PICH).
