Miami, Fla. –On August 15, 2015, Dr. Lillian Rivera, Administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County was awarded the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women’s (NACOPRW) 2015 Alicia Baró Achievement Award.
This honor is bestowed each year to a Puerto Rican woman who is a role model of great leadership, dedication, and a caring daily contributor to the betterment of the community.
As Administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, Dr. Rivera is responsible for the oversight and supervision of public health programs.  She administers a $70 million budget and 900 employees in a county with over 2.4 million residents.  Under her leadership, DOH-Miami-Dade is the only organization to be recognized as a three-time recipient of the prestigious Governor’s Sterling Award (2012, 2006 and 2002). In 2014, DOH-Miami-Dade was awarded the Governor’s Sustained Excellence Award for sustaining excellent results and continuing to pursue systematic performance improvement.
                         
The National Conference of Puerto Rican Women (NACOPRW) is a non-profit national organization with chapters in various cities. NACOPRW is the only national organization of Puerto Rican women in the United States dedicated to promoting the civic and cultural participation of Puerto Rican women and other Latinas in the economic, social and political life in the United States and Puerto Rico.  The Miami chapter was founded in 1977. Its first Board was presided by Dr. Alicia S. Baró.
