PrEP Awareness Week (October 25-29) is observed the last week of October each year. PrEP, or HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, is a medication that people can take to promote their sexual health and prevent HIV. PrEP Awareness Week is celebrated to bring increased awareness to the efficacy and availability of PrEP as an HIV prevention tool. The week also seeks to highlight how PrEP can work for Miami-Dade’s residents, with an emphasis on celebrating the diversity and strength of our communities.

The PrEP Implementation Summit is scheduled to be held virtually on Wednesday, October 27th from 2:00-4:00 PM. Providers will have the opportunity to hear from experienced PrEP providers and content experts on best practices for providing PrEP care in Miami-Dade County. Discussion will focus on overcoming common barriers to providing PrEP services, followed by a focus on best practices, a case study, and a Q&A session.

PrEP is a key pillar in the fight to end the HIV Epidemic. For more information on PrEP and other HIV prevention resources, please visit www.flhealth.gov and www.testmiami.org or contact the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County’s HIV/AIDS Program at 305-643-7420.
