Rene Ynestroza has been the Department of Health in Miami Dade County since 1998. He began his career at the Health Department as a Contracts Manager for the Tobacco Settlement Funding. Over the years, Mr. Ynestroza has grown with the organization holding key positions such as Director of Information Technology and most recently as Chief of Staff.

Among his responsibilities as Chief of Staff, he makes sure the services provided meet the strategic priorities and goals of the agency and also coordinates performance standards and business reviews.

Besides working in this capacity, he also oversees several departments which include Human Resources, Information Technology, Volunteer Services, Quality, Public Health Preparedness and Contract Management.
Rene left Honduras where he was born and raised in 1992 when he moved to Lawrence, Kansas to pursue his undergraduate degree. He then moved to Miami, Florida where he continued his studies and got his MBA from Florida International University (FIU) He then continued with his education and graduated from a second Masters in Management of Information Systems, also from FIU.

Prior to his employment with the Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, René’s experience included coordinating Special Events and fundraising efforts for a national non-profit organization.

René’s life outside work includes spending time with his wife and three children, bike riding, running, cooking and anything else that contributes to healthy living.
